Food & Water
|
| In
the wild, the butterworm eats the leaves from the Tebo
Tree. If you keep your worms in the refrigerator, they
do not need to be fed anything. Upon delivery to our
cooler, we first refresh there sawdust or pine shavng
(Bedding) They are held at household refrigeration 38 to
42 degrees F, this allows a hibernative state. In
this state no need for feeding. Butterworms will not eat
any food in the USA, unless you have a Chilean Trevo
Tree growng out in the back yard, The trevo tree
only grows in South America. Pine Tree Sawdust or
shavngs are great bedding and we recommend it.Pet stores
would carry Pine shaving for Hamsters. (DO NOT USE CEDAR
SHAVINGS). (NO Water) We recommend changing bedding
every few weeks, water may condinsate we removing from
refrigator to retreveing them for feeding or for fishing
bait , keep them in their hibernative state at all
times. |

Housing
|
| Keep your butterworms
in a vented plastic container, with a dry!!!! pine
shaving or sawdust bedding, Pine bedding for Hamsters or pet
works excellant. Place butterworms in your refrigerator, so they
will be dry. Check the worms often,at least once a week. They
love spinning a nest to be together, this is natural so leave
them go. If they are not, change the pine shavings or sawdust
right away (Its damp or wet or not pine). We have seen a
survival of 4 to 6 month. Even the USDA had them for 8 months
during inspection. |
| |
Breeding
|
| Butterworms are
irradiated before being shipped from Chile. This is done to kill
off any bacteria in substate (bedding) and to prevent the
butterworm from ever pupating into a moth. Butterworms
will not breed or mulitply with out their natural surroundings
and food. (Sorry) |

Disease &
Sickness
|
| NO Mold!!!!!!! in
plastic containers, it can lead to problems if digested by your
pet. If you find mold stop, rebed by changing pine
bedding, wait 24 hours and start using them again. |
